Personal History Born in Monterey, California

His mother died in childbirth. His father was sent into a spiral of depression, taking up drugs and alcohol. Ryan grew up never knowing where or even if his next meal was going to come. The older Ryan got, the deeper his father slipped. In a day and age were child abuse was near unheard of, one apparently shy boy was not spotted.

His love and gift for medicine showed up young, and Ryan was sewing up teddy bears, mending clothes and blankets and managing his own injuries at a very young age. At the age of twelve he met Amanda Hanson, and the two had an instant bond. They were inseparable. Ryan's home life came to a head on his thirteenth birthday. He was beat to the brink of death and left. Only the fact that he had promised Amanda to meet for his birthday saved him. When he didn't arrive, Amanda dragged her father with her to find Ryan.

After two weeks in a coma and another week of recovery, the Hanson's took Ryan home, the adoption taken care of while he was incapacitated. With a stable home environment and the help of his adoptive family and a counselor, Ryan thrived. His aptitude for medicine was free to thrive, and thrive it did. While most of his grades were good, his medical scores were exceptional, and Ryan had no problem being accepted into Starfleet Medical.
